NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I.—A registered sex offender was charged Thursday in Wakefield District Court with second-degree sexual assault in connection with attempted child abduction of a teenager in North Kingstown.

Anderson Price, 42, was also charged with enticement of children. A judge set bail at $50,000 with surety.

Police said on that just after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Price and two others drove Price’s van to Wickford Village where Price approached a 15-year-old girl.

“(Price) pulled up, got out of the van, and approached this young girl. He put his arm around her, offered her an ATM card,” Capt. Charles Brennan of the North Kingstown Police Department said. “He was trying to lure her into the van and he tried to grab her and was sexually molesting her on the way to the van.”

The van was later located in the parking lot of the Wickford Motor Inn on Post Road.

Employees at Wickford Motor Inn told NBC 10 that Price moved in about a month ago. They said they had no problems with him and had been very pleasant.

In court, investigators argued for significant bail based on Price’s past history.

Police said the two men that were with Price in the van are being treated as witnesses. The two men told police they didn’t take any action against the teenager and that they were just in the car for the ride and that they had no idea of Price’s intentions.
